Part Of Human Rights, National Police Chief Sigit Guarantees Freedom Of Expression For Every Citizen

JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that the Bhayangkara Corps highly values freedom of expression because it has been regulated in the Act (UU).

For this reason, the Police held an oration competition which was held at the Proclamation Monument, Central Jakarta. Race day coincides with the commemoration of World Human Rights Day on 10 December.

"The Indonesian National Police really appreciates freedom of expression, freedom of opinion which is part of what we must protect because it is part of human rights (HAM) which are given universal protection and are also regulated in the Constitution (UUD) and the Law," said Sigit to reporters, Friday, December 10.

However, it is undeniable that in reality there are often clashes during demonstrations. This is due to the different perceptions between the masses of action and the officers.

"In the field there are often differences in terms of responding, on the one hand people want to express expressions, but on the other hand of course we also see that this expression then maybe some of the members have an impact that there will be a risk of disrupting the stability of public order," said Sigit.

Therefore, in the future, Sigit stated that the National Police will oversee all demonstrations. This is because this is done to prevent the activity of expressing opinions in public from being infiltrated by certain parties.

"There is one thing we have to take care of is how then these activities are not developed by interests that will lead to things that disrupt security stability," said Sigit.

In addition to overseeing all demonstrations, the National Police will also provide education regarding the activity of expressing opinions. One of them, by holding an oration competition.

"Those things are certainly an education that we have to gradually socialize, because there must be a common ground so that they are both understood," said Sigit.
