Tornado In Situbondo Damaged 163 Houses

SITUBONDO - The tornado phenomenon destroyed hundreds of houses in Mangaran and Panji sub-districts, Situbondo, East Java. A total of 163 houses were damaged.

The Head of Situbondo BPBD, Zainul Arifin in Situbondo said the tornado occurred on Tuesday, December 7.

In Mangaran sub-district, there are two affected villages, namely Tanjung Glugur Village and Mangaran Village. While in Panji District, it is in Kayu Putih Village.

"At least 163 houses were damaged by the tornado. 31 houses were lightly damaged, 70 houses were moderately damaged, and 62 houses were heavily damaged. Luckily, there were no casualties in this incident," he said, Thursday, November 9.

Apart from houses, he said, the wind also knocked down a number of trees. Trees block access roads to these villages.

"Many trees fell on the side of the road. When they fell, they closed the road. And immediately we evacuated together with officers, assisted by residents," he said.

Zainul appealed to the public to be more vigilant and careful. Because the weather has been extreme lately.

"In the rainy season, various risks of natural disasters can always occur. So we urge the public to continue to be vigilant," he said.
