West Sumatra Community Prepares 7 Tons Of Rendang To Help Semeru Eruption Victims

PADANG - The people of West Sumatra took the initiative to collect seven tons of rendang to help victims of the Mount Semeru disaster, Lumajang, East Java. rendang assistance with a minimum target of 1 ton, must be collected at the latest by the West Sumatra BPBD Friday, December 10, 21 at 17.00 WIB," said Head of West Sumatra Communications and Information Technology, Jasman Rizal, in Padang quoted by Antara, Thursday, December 9.

The collection of rendang is done separately involving many parties. Former Mayor of Padang, Fauzi Bahar, did a fundraising campaign by cooperating with aid distribution agencies, Sutan Syahrir Air Base, Gebu Minang West Sumatra, West Sumatra PPM with women from the IKA Boga Cooperative, Padang City, with a target of 5 tons of rendang.

The Regent of Dharmasraya Sutan Riska Tuanku Kingdom initiated the cooking of rendang together with bundo kanduang or mothers in his area. Three cows are slaughtered to make one ton of rendang which will also be sent to victims of the Semeru eruption.

The Governor of West Sumatra, Mahyeldi also initiated the collection of rendang from a number of Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD) and the community to be distributed to victims of the Semeru eruption. The assistance will later be distributed by the West Sumatra Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Saturday, December 11.

"The aid is planned to be sent to Lumajang on Saturday, December 11, 2021 and immediately distributed to the community in the refugee camps," he said.

In addition to collecting rendang, according to Jasman, other assistance was also carried out, including through raising donations through W Sumatra Cares for Others with the target that the affected community was also channeled through the East Java Provincial Government. This includes assistance from the West Sumatra National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas).

Regarding the disaster that claimed lives and thousands of people were affected, the Governor personally through his Instagram account on Saturday, December 4, also directly expressed his condolences.

"The governor also invited the whole community to pray for safety and to be given patience for the brothers and sisters affected by the disaster in Lumajang," he said.
