Jokowi Called Firli Bahuri As 'Conductor' Of Corruption Eradication Orchestra In Indonesia

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) was a conductor or orchestra leader in efforts to eradicate corruption in the country. He hopes that in the hands of the former Governor of DKI Jakarta, steps to suppress rioting can be carried out properly.

"We really hope and thank Mr. President. Mr. President is the leader of the corruption eradication orchestra," Firli said in his remarks at the commemoration of World Anti-Corruption Day (Hakordia) 2021 at the KPK Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Thursday, December 9.

Firli said Jokowi is the cornerstone to solve corruption in Indonesia. The former deputy for prosecution of the Corruption Eradication Commission also hopes that the corruption eradication orchestra can be eliminated indiscriminately.

"Why do we say that because it is in the hands of the president that we hope that we can eradicate corruption. We can eliminate corruption, we can get rid of bribery and there is no more culture of corruption," he said.

"Through the orchestra led by the president, we sincerely hope that legislative, judicial and executive powers stay away from perpetrators of corruption," added Firli.

Furthermore, he said the KPK is currently trying to strengthen three strategies, namely public education, prevention, and prosecution. Moreover, the success of law enforcement officers is not only measured by the number of perpetrators arrested but also by the success of prevention.

"We want all of us to inherit our nation away from corrupt actors and we build an anti-corruption culture. So that people don't want to commit corruption because they love the country's goals," said Firli.

"With that, we have made improvements to the system in all lines across all institutional ministries. In the past 2020, 45 studies were carried out by the KPK and we submitted to the institutional ministries with 65 recommendations," he said.
