Asking For The Bill On Asset Confiscation To Be Ratified Immediately, Jokowi: This Is Very Important

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ordered his staff and the legislature to push for and immediately ratify the Asset Confiscation Bill. This legislation is considered important for fair law enforcement.

"The government continues to push for the immediate enactment of the Law on the Confiscation of Criminal Assets. It is also very important that we continue to push it," said Jokowi when opening the commemoration of World Anti-Corruption Day (Hakordia) 2021 at the KPK Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Thursday, December 9.

Jokowi hopes that this legislation can be passed soon. Thus, the law can be enforced in order to improve the welfare of the community.

"We hope that next year, God willing, this can be completed so that fair law enforcement can be realized in a professional and accountable manner to improve people's welfare," said the former governor of DKI Jakarta.

Furthermore, Jokowi requested that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the Attorney General's Office apply charges of money laundering (TPPU) against the perpetrators of corruption. The goal is that the punishment for the perpetrators can be applied firmly.

"I also encourage the KPK and the Attorney General's Office to apply as much as possible the charges of money laundering and money laundering to ensure strict and most important criminal sanctions to recover state financial losses," he said.

In addition, Jokowi also reminded the perpetrators of corruption to be pursued as much as possible at home and abroad. Including, chasing assets hidden by perpetrators of corruption to the mafia.

He said this could be done because Indonesia currently has international cooperation with a number of countries regarding the return of criminal assets.

"We also have several international collaborations for the return of criminal assets, legal aid agreements, reciprocity in criminal matters, treats on mutual legal assistance. We have agreed with Switzerland and Russia," Jokowi explained.

"They are ready to assist in tracing, freezing, confiscation, and confiscation of assets resulting from criminal acts abroad. Therefore, fugitive corrupt perpetrators can be pursued both at home and abroad, assets hidden by mafia, oil and gas mafia, port mafia , drug mafia, meat mafia, land mafia can continue to be pursued and the perpetrators can be brought to justice," he concluded.
