Kostrad Deploys Radar Rescue Equipment, Can Detect Semeru Victims Buried By Lava

JAKARTA - The search and rescue operation for the eruption of Mount Semeru continues to be carried out by a joint team. Zipur 10/JP/2 Kostrad also assisted in searching for victims, lowered excavators, and Rescue Radar equipment.

These tools were deployed in the Sumberwuluh area, Lumajang Regency, East Java, Tuesday, December 7 yesterday. Zipur 10/JP/2 Kostrad led by Lt. Czi Hanif Nur Zafar deployed Alberzi in the form of excavators and Rescue Radar equipment in the Sumberwuluh area, Lumajang Regency, East Java, Tuesday (7/12).

In a written release of Information on Divif 2 Kostrad in Malang, Wednesday, December 8, the Rescue Radar tool is an auxiliary tool to detect the presence of victims buried by lava. What if the presence of the victim has been detected, then heavy equipment excavators that work as lava diggers to retrieve the bodies of victims due to the eruption of Mount Semeru.

"By using this equipment, we hope that we can help search for victims who are missing or buried in mud due to the eruption of Mount Semeru," said Lt. Czi Hanif Nur Zafar.

He said, Zipur 10/JP/2 Kostrad soldiers will continue to try to help the evacuation process of victims buried under the lava due to the eruption of Mount Semeru, considering that there are still many victims who have not been found.

The number of victims who died due to the Mount Semeru disaster increased to 39 people. This figure increased after the joint SAR team again found four victims who died on the fifth day of this search.

"With the addition of four people who died today, a total of 39 people died," said Head of Operations for the Surabaya SAR Office, I Wayan Suyatna, confirmed on Wednesday, December 8.

Wayan said the four victims were found in the Dusun Curah Kobokan. The first and second victims, known to be male and female, were successfully evacuated at 06.00 western Indonesia time.

Meanwhile, the third victim, male (aged a child) was evacuated at 09.45 western Indonesia time. The fourth victim, male, was evacuated at 10.45 western Indonesia time.

"After being evacuated from the location of the discovery to a safe point, the bodies of the four victims were taken to Dr. Haryoto Lumajang Hospital for identification," he said.
