BANDUNG - West Java Governor M Ridwan Kamil appealed to the public to stay at home while celebrating the turn of the 2022 new year's eve.

Ridwan Kamil advised that this annual celebration be a means of contemplation in carrying out various activities at the end of 2021.

"So I urge the public not to do a lot of activities during the Christmas and New Year holidays because that will increase the potential for overcrowding and overcrowding. We are grateful for the blessings of the New Year at home, maximizing the family with our families, contemplating the blessings of God that we are still given the age and health to welcome 2022 with a new spirit of optimism," said Ridwan Kamil in a written statement quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 8.

Ridwan Kamil said that the cancellation of the Level 3 Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) in all regions from the Central Government did not reduce vigilance in the regions to continue to implement tightening in various places.

Previously, the central government through the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan had said that PPKM level 3 was canceled throughout Indonesia from 24 December 2021 to 2 January 2022.

"I convey that without PPKM Level 3 (applicable to all), it does not reduce the tightening plan in reducing the potential for the spread of COVID-19," he said at a Coordination Meeting with the Policy Committee for COVID-19 Handling and Regional Economic Recovery in West Java, in Bedung Bandung City Satay.

The governor and the West Java Regional Police Chief Inspector General Suntana are committed to checking on New Year's Eve to ensure that the Nataru celebration in West Java remains conducive.

"We prohibit the celebration of New Year's Eve, publicly and massly in hotels in outdoor buildings, convoys are prohibited and the Kapolda and his staff are committed to securing this policy," he said.

In addition to places that are usually visited by the public to celebrate Christmas and New Year, the Governor also asked the police and elements of the TNI to conduct patrols in traffic lanes that are often crowded with tourists.

In the same place, West Java Regional Police Chief Inspector General Suntana said that the blocking activities or commonly called "check points" at various points would still apply.

"We continue to carry out blocking activities or check points to limit crowds in one place or a path," said Suntana.

Suntana said the blockade would apply at the gates of the Cileunyi and Cikampek toll roads as well as other protocol roads. The plan is that there are six location points that will be subject to restrictions.

Even though PPKM Level 3 was canceled, the Regional Police Chief still appealed to the people of West Java not to leave their homes during New Year's Eve. Regarding convoy activities, he stressed that no permission would be granted.
