JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency warned of the threat of high waves and strong winds that could affect tidal waves in Manado City, North Sulawesi for the next three days.

Head of the BMKG Maritime Meteorology Center Eko Prasetyo said the phenomenon of strong winds and high waves should have peaked on Thursday, December 9.

"However, after we analyzed it for today, it will last for the next three days for strong winds and high waves in Manado," said Eko, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 8.

Eko said people in coastal areas need to be careful when the tide is maximum. The predicted wind speed is 25-30 knots.

He explained that the phenomenon of the tidal wave in Manado Bay was not the first time, because last year it also happened. Rob is influenced by the position of the coast of North Sulawesi which is directly facing the Pacific Ocean, which is currently experiencing high waves.

"Of course, the influence of strong winds and high waves, and at the same time as the maximum tide, this often causes sea water to enter the land," said Eko.

Eko said that from past experience, there should have been adaptation efforts to the environment around the north coast of Manado.

Previously, tidal flooding occurred in the city of Manado, North Sulawesi. The incident that occurred on Tuesday, December 7 at 18.00 WITA had an impact on 34 family heads (KK) or 113 people.

The Manado City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that no residents were evacuated due to the incident.

The tidal flood submerged 3 villages in 3 sub-districts, namely, South Titiwungen Village in Sario District, Karangria Village in Tuminting District, and Malalayang Village in Malalayang District.

The tidal flood also hit one of the Mega Mall Manado shopping centers, causing several vehicles parked on the edge of the area to be hit by the waves. In addition, 21 residential housing units were also affected.

The BNPB Operations Control Center (Pusdalops) report, Tuesday (7/12) at 21:59 WIB, the condition of the tidal flood has begun to gradually recede. This is in line with the receding sea water.
