Ministry Of Health: Health And Vaccination Protocols To Prevent COVID-19 Mutations

JAKARTA - Spokesperson for COVID-19 Vaccination, Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi said that health protocols and vaccinations can prevent mutations of the new COVID-19 virus.

"The most important thing is the implementation of health protocols and vaccinations", said Siti Nadia Tarmizi in a dialogue-themed "Discipline of Masks and Vaccinations to Prevent Omicron", quoted Antara, Tuesday, December 7.

She said that by implementing health protocols, people could prevent the virus from entering the body. That way, the virus will not find a place to thrive.

"This means that it is important that we must not be careless about health protocols, but limit mobility", she said.

While vaccination, she continued, can prevent new positive cases.

"With everyone having been vaccinated, it will form a shared immunity, and this prevents possible variants that arise. Variants arise because the virus infects or transmits to humans because they adapt to us", she explained.

Nadia assessed that the entry of new variants of the COVID-19 virus such as Omicron in Indonesia depends on people's behavior in suppressing the transmission of COVID-19.

"Then obey the health protocols and immediately vaccinate against COVID-19 so that the virus cannot develop", she said.

Nadia also said that currently the Delta variant is the most widely circulated and dominates the type of COVID-19 virus in Indonesia.

"We need to be aware that this Delta variant has mutated, at this time we have identified 23 derivatives of the Delta variant", she said.

She reminded that the COVID-19 pandemic was not over, although domestic cases were relatively under control.

"This pandemic is not over, although this week we saw a decrease between 200-300 cases reported per day. Deaths reported for one week averaged 8-10 people. So if we look at the transmission rate is already low at this time, but still, we must be careful", she said.
