JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government through the DKI Water Resources Service (SDA) continues the construction of embankments along the coast of Jakarta, namely the National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD).

Head of the DKI SDA Agency, Yusmada Faizal, said that the construction of the embankment was hampered by high tides and tidal flooding that had occurred since Friday, December 3, 2021.

Tidal flooding occurs due to seawater flowing through the embankment because the current height of the existing embankment cannot withstand tidal waves, especially if the sea level (TMA) exceeds +240 PP. The average height of the inundation caused by the tidal flood was as high as 20-50cm.

Tidal flooding had occurred in several areas such as Lodan Street Sunda Kelapa Harbor, RE Martadinata Street, Tanjung Priok, Muara Baru, and the Si Pitung Marunda area.

"The high tide occurs in the morning from 07.00 to 11.00 western Indonesia time, and begins to recede in the afternoon and into the evening," Yusmada said in a statement, Tuesday, December 7.

Yusmada revealed that the NCICD embankment construction process will continue to be pursued in a sustainable manner in collaboration with various parties, especially stakeholders whose activities are in direct contact with the NCICD embankment trace.

"The Natural Resources Service will encourage and strive so that stakeholders in the coastal area of Jakarta can also help in the process of building the embankment. So that the target to secure the coastal area of DKI Jakarta can be achieved immediately," he said.

As is well known, NCICD is a national strategic project to build a coastal embankment along the Jakarta coastline. In addition to tackling tidal flooding, the construction of the NCICD embankment is carried out as an effort to secure and reorganize the northern coastal area of Jakarta as well as to improve the environment.

The DKI Provincial Government has carried out the construction of the NCICD embankment from 2016 to 2019, then resumed it in 2021, with a total target of 790 meters.

In addition, the DKI Provincial Government also plans to build 2 coastal polder systems, namely Polder Kamal and Polder Marunda, the construction of which consists of Sluices, Pumps, and Reservoirs. The polder will later be integrated with the NCICD embankment which is currently still in progress.
