Radicalism Spreads Through Religion, Islamic Boarding Students Are Invited To Actively Spread Moderate Islam

JAKARTA - The Coordinator of the Madani Muslim Network (JMM) Syukron Jamal invites the students to convey the message of peaceful and moderate Islam to prevent radicalism.

"The spread of radicalism and terrorism wrapped in religion is still a serious threat in Indonesia," said Syukron in a written statement in Jakarta, Antara, Monday, December 6. He said the students were at the forefront of conveying a moderate, friendly and peaceful message of Islam or rahmatan lil alamin.

"Until now, the spread of radicalism in the name of religion is still rife in various forms, including in cyberspace. Many are lulled and indoctrinated by the spread of this understanding. One of them is the lack of understanding of the principles of Islam as the religion of rahmatan lil alamin," explained Syukron.

Syukron emphasized that radicalism, extremism, and even terrorism are clearly in stark contrast to Islam as a religion that brings mercy to the entire universe. He said, "radicalism" is defined as harsh, exclusive, narrow-minded, rigid, and monopolizing the truth.

“People who have a radical understanding are narrow-minded, rigid in understanding Islam, and are exclusive. Anything that is considered heretical, infidel, or takfiri even has thoughts must be fought. If there are people like that, it will be proof of their unfaithful understanding of Islam," explained Syukron.

In the history of Islam, said Syukron, the Caliph Usman Ibn Affan was horribly killed by a group of extreme Muslims. Similarly, the Caliph Ali Ibn Abi Talib was also killed by the extremists.

According to Syukron, this fact confirms that radicalism, extremism, and terrorism are poisons or viruses in Islam that are destructive from within, including the life structure of the nation and state.

"It has become an obligation as Muslims, especially students, to strive to uphold the banner of Islam that is rahmatan lil alamin, friendly, moderate and tolerant Islam and upholds human values in the midst of the plurality of our beloved nation," said Syukron.
