PALEMBANG - The Government of Palembang City, South Sumatra (Sumsel) allowed a wedding party during the implementation of the implementation of the level 3 community activity restriction (PPKM) for the 2022 Christmas and New Year holidays.

Weddings and the like are still allowed during PPKM level 3 on December 24, 2021 to January 2, 2022 by complying with health rules and protocols (prokes).

Deputy Mayor of Palembang Fitrianti Agustinda said that the implementation of PPKM does not hinder community activities but protects the community from the possibility of a spike in cases of COVID-19 transmission.

"For people who will hold weddings and other events, please comply with the rules according to PPKM level 3," he explained in Palembang as quoted by Antara, Friday, December 3.

To increase community participation and compliance with PPKM level 3, his party seeks to disseminate the rules according to the instructions of the Minister of Home Affairs.

"After the issuance of Minister of Home Affairs No. 62/2021, a team was dispatched to disseminate information to the public and business actors so that these rules can be adhered to and implemented properly to prevent a spike in cases of COVID-19 transmission," he said.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, activities for celebrating Christmas and New Year's Day, operating shopping centers/malls, restaurants, cafes, cinemas and tourist attractions are regulated. Restrictions on cultural and traditional arts activities as well as activities that have the potential to cause other crowds such as weddings.

Meanwhile, special rules for the implementation of the 2022 New Year Celebration and shopping/mall venues include the prohibition of new year's parades and processions as well as the prohibition of 'Old and New Year' events, both open and closed, which have the potential to cause crowds.

Using the PeduliLindung application when entering and leaving shopping centers, eliminating Christmas and New Year celebrations at malls except for MSME exhibitions and extending mall operating hours from 10.00 – 21.00 WIB to 09.00 – 22.00 WIB to prevent crowds at certain hours and impose restrictions with the number of visitors not exceeding 50 percent of the total capacity of the shopping center.

It is hoped that the rules during the implementation of PPKM level 3 can be complied with and appeal to local city residents to reduce mobility during the year-end holidays at Christmas and New Year in order to avoid the transmission of COVID-19, said Deputy Mayor Fitrianti.
