94W Tropical Cyclone Seeds In Bay Of Bengal, BMKG Asks Aceh And North Sumatra To Beware Of Heavy Rain And Strong Winds

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) is monitoring the seeds of Tropical Cyclone 94W in the Bay of Bengal around northwest Aceh. 9.6 LU to be exact; 90.4 East Longitude with the lowest pressure of 1004 MB and maximum wind speed of 25 knots on Thursday morning.

"Observation of the Himawari-8 satellite imagery, it can be seen that there is a collection of convective clouds in the system and it looks more circular", said BMKG Deputy for Meteorology, Guswanto, in his statement, Thursday, November 2.

Guswanto said from the analysis of layered winds, circulation in the lower to middle layers is well monitored.

However, in the 200 hPa layer, the circulation appears to be wider and the wind speed is observed to be very strong, with divergence (20-30 s-1) and moderate vertical shear (10-20 knots).

Then the bottom to middle layer vorticity is quite strong, the bottom layer convergence is moderate (10-20 s-1), and the sea surface temperature is warm (29-30°C).

"Based on NWP data in the next 48 hours this system will increase and move west-northwest. The potential to become a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours is in the moderate category", said Guswanto.

The indirect impact that can be caused by cyclone 94W in the next 24 hours is the potential for moderate-heavy rains accompanied by strong winds in Aceh and North Sumatra.

Then the wave height of 1.25 - 2.5 meters (Moderate) in the southern waters of Kep. Anambas and Natuna, Natuna Sea, Eastern waters of Bintan Islands

Furthermore, the potential for wave heights of 2.5-4.0 meters (Rough Sea) in the North Waters of Kep. Anambas, West Waters of the Natuna Islands, Subi Islands Waters, Serasan. Furthermore, wave heights of 4.0 - 6.0 meters (Very Rough Sea) in the North Natuna Sea and North Natuna Waters.
