BMKG Reminds People To Beware Of Potential Tropical Cyclone Lotus

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reminded the public to be aware of the potential birth of tropical cyclone 92S, known as Cyclone Lotus in the next few hours.

"The seeds of this cyclone have a high chance of forming into a tropical cyclone with a name that has been prepared by TCWC Jakarta, namely Tropical Cyclone Lotus, with a southeast-south movement direction away from Indonesian territory", said Head of BMKG, Dwikorita Karnawati, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 1.

She explained that based on the analysis of tropical cyclone seeds in the last 24 hours since the first growth on November 30, 2021, the 92S cyclone seed system experienced an increase in intensity.

Based on the analysis on December 1, the seeds of cyclone 92S were already in the Indian Ocean southwest of Lampung, precisely at 9.0 latitude 103.0 east longitude.

Maximum wind speed around the cyclone seed system reaches 30 knots or 56 km/hour with minimum air pressure around its center reaching 1006 hPa.

BMKG predicts that the wind speed will increase to 35 knots (65 km/hour) in the next few hours.

This Lotus Cyclone will impact the southern part of Sumatra; South Sumatra, Bengkulu, Lampung. Then in the Sunda Strait, Banten, West Java, and Central Java, and a small part of East Java.

The impact could be the potential for rain with moderate to heavy intensity accompanied by lightning and strong winds in the areas of Bengkulu, Lampung, Banten, DKI Jakarta, and West Java.

The wave height is 2.5 to 4.0 meters in the western waters of Lampung, the southern and western parts of the Sunda Strait, the southern waters of Banten, and the southern Indian Ocean of West Java.

Not only that said Dwikorita, but the public also needs to be aware of the potential for another tropical cyclone, namely 94W, which is located in the north of North Sumatra. Although it is still a cyclone seed, it has an impact on high wave heights of up to 1.25 to 6 meters.

"The wave height is 4 to 6 meters, this is asking for serious attention, in the North Natuna Sea", she said.
