The Minister Of Home Affairs Encourages The Implementation Of Smart City For Efficient Government

JAKARTA - The Minister of Home Affairs, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, encourages the implementation of smart cities or smart cities to create an efficient government and facilitate the community in various affairs.

The Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, explained that the smart city paradigm is now developing and people need it as information and communication technology or ICT advances.

"This smart city is really effective for efficient government, for government, as well as for the people, simplifying all matters: social, economic, political, cultural, and others", said the Minister of Home Affairs in a written statement quoted by Antara, Wednesday, December 1.

Therefore, the Minister of Home Affairs reminded the importance of government officials who are responsive and understand the changing times and the dynamics of public needs for fast-paced public services.

Tito also asked government officials to change their mindset about the importance of IT to make decisions quickly, more precisely and based on accurate data.

"We cannot avoid it. If we avoid it, we will be late, in today's competitive climate, being left behind will make the public leave", he said.

To support the smart city concept, said the Minister of Home Affairs, local governments need to prepare various supporting infrastructure, such as the preparation of technology-savvy human resources (HR), IT infrastructure, digitizing various supporting data, to digitizing the budget to make it more transparent.

"It also encourages continuous innovation as well as a competitive environment", said the Minister of Home Affairs.

However, he hopes that the smart city concept will not only be interpreted as a project to provide IT-based infrastructure but more than that, a change in work culture for government officials is also needed.

According to him, no less important, smart cities must also be able to combine the concept of IT-based governance with a green city.

"Smart cities are not only limited to the use of information techniques but are starting to adopt a green city", said the Minister of Home Affairs.
