JAKARTA - Indonesia will soon operate its Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) drone, named Elang Hitam. The plan is that the Black Eagle will start flying and airing in January 2021.
Launching from Antara, Minister of Research and Technology (Menristek) Bambang PS Brodjonegoro said the Elang Hitam drone had received a Type Certificate from the Indonesia Military Airworthiness Authority (IMAA). "The results of the development will be produced by PT DI (Dirgantara Indonesia) with a target flight or first flight in January 2021," said Bambang at the 25th Anniversary of National Technology Awakening Day (Hakteknas), Monday 10 August.
Bambang, who is also the head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), explained that the Black Eagle is the result of the collaboration of the nation's children with the formation of a consortium between the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), the Ministry of Defense, the Indonesian Air Force, ITB, PT Dirgantara Indonesia, and PT LEN Persero. .
As a MALE unmanned aircraft (PUNA), the Black Eagle can fly for 24 hours and functions in the maritime defense system as sensing, monitoring, surveillance, reconnaissance and intelligence (P4I), as well as action against maritime threats.
