BELITUNG - The Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) of South Sumatra released two bondol eagles (Haliastur Indus) in the Seberang Bersatu Community Forest (Hkm) area, Juru Seberang Village, Tanjung Pandan, Belitung.

The Head of the Conservation Section for Region III of the South Sumatra BKSDA, Azis Abdul Latif MS, said the release was a support for the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) program to preserve state-owned wildlife.

"We deliberately released the bondol eagle on Belitung Island because it is suitable for nature and the environment, considering that this type of eagle is a sea eagle," he said, quoted by Antara, Thursday, November 25.

According to him, the two Bondol Eagles (Haliastur Indus) have gone through the rehabilitation process at the Alobi Animal Rescue Center (PPS) in accordance with the Minutes of Custody Number BAP.106/K.12/TU/KSA/1/2019 dated January 19, 2019.

Abdul said the two nondol eagles came from the community in Palembang City and were transported to PPS Alobi in 2019 as a state deposit to be cared for in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

"The wild animal of the Bondol Elang (haliastur indus) is declared healthy and worthy to be released into the wild," he said.

Meanwhile, the Regent of Belitung, Sahani Saleh, appreciated the South Sumatra BKSDA and a number of parties who had released clay animals at the Seberang Bersatu Hkm location, which was previously a former tin mining area.

"HKm Seberang Bersatu is a geosite that has been recognized by UNESCO for the high efforts of the community towards the restoration of the former Tin mining area," he said.
