Floods Hit 5 Districts In Tegal, Central Java, 12.518 Residents Are Affected

JAKARTA - Floods hit Tegal Regency, Central Java. The flood occurred after heavy rains that overflowed the Cacaban River, Rambut River, Kemiri River, Pekijing River and Siwarak River on Monday, November 25 at 23.30 p.m. local time.

Acting Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Disaster Communication Information Data Center (BNPB) Abdul Muhari said, as many as 12.518 people were affected by the flood.

"Of the tens of thousands of people who were affected, there were 25 families who were forced to take refuge in the Baitutaqwa Mosque in Dampyak Village," said Abdul Muhari in his statement, Thursday, November 25.

Abdul Muhari said, this flood hit five sub-districts in the Tegal Regency area. Among them are Tembok Banjaran Village in Adiwerna District, Pecabean Village in Pangkah District, Sidakaton Village, Kupu Village in Dukuhturi District, Sidaharja Village in Suradadi District.

Then in Maribaya Village, Kemuning Village, Plumbungan Village, Dampyak Village in Kramat District, Banjaragung Village, Sukareja Village in Warureja District.

As reported by the Tegal Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency, at least 1.564 housing units were affected with water levels ranging from 30 to 150 centimeters.

"The latest conditions are reported, the flooding has begun to recede gradually and the displaced residents have returned to their homes," said Abdul Muhari.

Based on the Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Council's (BMKG) basic rain forecast as of November 21 - 30, 2021, most of the Central Java Province has the potential for rainfall in the medium category with a figure of 100 - 150 mm.

"In response to this, the BNPB urges to always be vigilant and increase preparedness. The participation of the pentahelix element is also expected to be a key in handling flood disasters, of course, to jointly prepare studies and long-term plans so that this incident does not continue to repeat itself," he added.
