Good News From Risma, The Ministry Of Social Affairs Will Prepare A Social Barn For Disaster Victims

JAKARTA - Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini said the Ministry of Social Affairs would prepare social granaries that could be used for handling and providing assistance for disaster victims.

"Tomorrow we will have a meeting to prepare social barns. Not just food barns, inside there are boats, water purifiers, generators, and so on. What is in the social barns can later be used by disaster victims who cannot run at the post," said Risma at the Palangka Raya post, Central Kalimantan, reported by Antara, Wednesday, November 24.

The statement was made by the Minister of Social Affairs when she visited a refugee center and flood victims in the "City of Beauty" in Palangka Raya.

She said her party together with the government of four regencies in Central Kalimantan and the City Government of Palangka Raya, would hold a coordination meeting for disaster mapping.

"Moreover, the BMKG forecast, the peak of the rainy season in January-February. We must anticipate this. For social granaries, I ask the regional head to prepare the location," said Risma.

Later, she continued, the location of the social granary will be centered in the sub-district area. This makes it easier to access services for the community in the event of a disaster.

Meanwhile, while visiting the flood victims, the former Surabaya Mayor was accompanied by the Deputy Governor of Central Kalimantan, Edy Pratowo, and the Mayor of Palangka Raya, Fairid Naparin.

On that occasion, Risma visited the refugee camps at KONI Sports Hall and residents' settlements in Lower Flamboyan. She also interacted with flood victims, joked, and gave gifts to children in refugee camps.

In a series of reviewing the impact of the flood, the Minister of Social Affairs also handed over compensation to the heirs of the deceased victims in the amount of Rp15 million on behalf of Misdi (85), which was received by his son as the heir on behalf of Nur (36).

In addition to death compensation, the Ministry of Social Affairs also provides other assistance, namely Psychosocial Support Services (LDP), logistical assistance, and attention assistance. LDP is given to flood survivors with the aim of reducing the psychological burden and recovering from trauma.

The Ministry of Social Affairs also provided attention assistance with a total aid value of more than Rp1 billion to flood victims. Central Kalimantan Deputy Governor Edy Pratowo said, in dealing with flooding in his area, his side made maximum efforts to be responsive, adequate housing, clothing, and food.

Palangka Raya Mayor Fairid Naparin added that in handling flood victims, residents were also actively involved in helping the government.

Some residents provide direct assistance to victims, other residents are active in posts and evacuation sites. In addition, there are people who do fundraising and self-help assistance.

He also appreciated the high level of public concern for the flood victims. The government's efforts to meet the basic needs of flood victims are getting maximized.
