BADUNG - The Udayana University (Unud) Bali questioned the data on dozens of Unud students who were said to be victims of sexual violence. This data is issued by the Bali Legal Aid Institute (LBH).

The Chancellor of Udayana University (Unud) Prof. I Nyoman Gde Antara criticized the LBH Bali report which stated that there were 42 Unud students who were victims of sexual violence.

"Until now, what I'm surprised about is that friends from LBH Bali have spoken to the mass media about these figures. Frankly, we don't hold onto these data at all," Antara told reporters on Monday, November 22.

Unud will coordinate asking LBH Bali to openly provide data on victims of sexual violence. Unud wants to identify the perpetrators, victims and dates of sexual violence against Unud students.

“If, for example, it is said that there are 42 victims of violence at Unud, we have 35 thousand students, 1,700 lecturers, 1,600 education staff. How can we process (if the data is incomplete)," he added.

In addition, Unud criticized LBH Bali's sexual violence data obtained through surveys and questionnaires. Data validation is questionable.

"This is what I don't understand, when the survey and questionnaire were carried out. How was the validation, what was the population, then what was the error rate. So in principle we are very open and will firmly resolve this case if it is by data. who is the culprit, the victim, when it happened, where it happened," said the Rector of Unud.

Based on data from LBH quoted by the mass media, there are 4 Unud staff who are said to have committed sexual violence. There are also 14 students who are said to be the perpetrators.

"There I saw that there were four staff, I think if there were staff we could quickly anticipate and follow up on these four people if we knew who they were. We don't have the data. Then, he said 14 of them were students. This is very important, when it happened, where," continued Antara.

"I mean this, maybe at that time their status (students and students) were dating and it happened outside the campus. We couldn't move much like that," said the Unud Chancellor.

The Chancellor of Unud said that he would take legal steps if LBH Bali did not show the data and account for the validity of the reports received regarding sexual violence.

"If he plays with this number with unrealistic evidence, we can take legal action against LBH Bali, especially since this (Chairman of LBH Bali) is a former BEM administrator of Unud. He should know more about our internal affairs, but how come that's the way. That's what I regret, it's very unprofessional to give these figures to the public and urge us to solve them. That's what we really care about," said Antara.

The Bali Legal Aid Institute (LBH) said there were 45 female students who were victims. Of the total number of victims, 42 were Udayana University students and the remaining 3 were Warmadewa University students.

Director of LBH/YLBHI Bali Ni Kadek Vany Primaliraning said the figure was obtained after his party together with student organizations at the two campuses made a complaint post at the end of 2020.

Actually, there were 73 complaints of sexual violence in the two campuses. But there were 45 cases of direct complaints from victims. Sexual violence occurred when the victims were in early college up to four years.

"Between the first semester until the eighth semester. Until now, we have not decided to take legal action," said Vany, contacted separately.

For the perpetrators, the majority are students, including lecturers. Meanwhile, the mode that was used at that time was while being guided by the thesis. Apart from lecturers and students, the perpetrators are also traders and construction workers who are in the campus area and the general public.

According to Vany, the data on victims of sexual violence has been submitted to the campus. According to him, the Udayana campus has not followed up, while the Warmadewa campus called Vany has issued an alleged perpetrator of sexual violence.
