Suggest MUI Internal Clean Up, GP Ansor: Be Careful When Filling Position Of Fatwa And Finance

JAKARTA - The chairman of the Ansor Youth Movement, Luqman Hakim, advised the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) to carry out an internal cleanup after the arrest of the Central MUI Fatwa Commission member Ahmad Zain An-Najah by the Special Detachment (Densus) 88 Anti-terror Police Headquarters on suspicion of terrorism.

According to him, the clean-up needs to be done so that MUI is protected from infiltrators of radical and jihadist movements who damage the image of MUI itself.

"It is better for MUI to carry out internal cleaning efforts," said Luqman, Sunday, November 21.

In particular, the PKB politician asked MUI to be careful in filling out the fatwa section and the finance section.

"To ensure that whoever currently sits on the management of MUI in all its central areas is completely spared from the possibility of him being exposed to radicalism and terrorism," he said.

In order to clean up, Luqman continued, MUI is deemed necessary to cooperate with the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT), and the Special Detachment 88 Anti-terror to carry out profiling for both central and regional administrators.

With the internal profiling of the MUI, he said, in the future, the MUI will be more selective in recruiting people suspected of having been involved in jihadist groups.

"I understand that MUI has limitations in identifying and tracking someone's track record. It is important to cooperate with BIN, BNPT, Densus 88 to clean up now," said Luqman.

Previously, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) had conveyed its official stance regarding the arrest of Central MUI Fatwa Commission member Ahmad Zain An-Najah by the Special Detachment (Densus) 88 Anti-terror Police Headquarters in Pondokmelati, Bekasi City, West Java, Tuesday, November 16.

The statement of attitude was uploaded by the Chairman of the Central MUI, Cholil Nafis through the Instagram account @cholilnafis which was monitored on Thursday, November 18.

MUI admits that the person concerned is a member of the MUI Fatwa Commission, which is an organizational device at MUI.

However, MUI ensures that the involvement in question is a personal attitude, so it has nothing to do with MUI.

"The alleged involvement in the terrorist network movement is a personal matter and has nothing to do with the MUI," wrote MUI in its official statement.
