Wants To Kill Himself, ODGJ Men From Tanjung Priok Jump To BKT Pondok Kopi

JAKARTA - A man was rescued by residents after throwing himself into the East Flood Canal (BKT), Pondok Kopi, East Jakarta.

The witness, a trader around the location, this man, a resident of Tanjung Priok, was desperate to jump into the BKT. Seeing the unusual sight, the witness immediately asked other residents for help.

Two residents then swam into the BKT stream and pulled the man's body that was starting to sink.

"While sitting down, the people said that someone in the shop just jumped. That person was screaming for help, he was about to drown. I grabbed his head, if not I would drown", said Ponco, a resident who rescued him.

Residents then brought to the edge and had time to ask the name of the man.

"He said he was asking for help, I was going to faint, I was weak, the man said. Finally, I got to the top, I gave him water", he said.

But when asked by residents, the man's answer kept changing. From his confession, the man's name was Oblak. He admitted that he came from Priok with his friend.

"Jump off the bridge", Oblak said.

The man suspected of being depressed was then handed over to the East Jakarta Social Service Sub-dept.

When confirmed, the Head of the East Jakarta Social Sub-Department confirmed that the young man would undergo social rehabilitation. The young man belongs to the People with Mental Disorders (ODGJ).

"We are rehabilitating. Yesterday afternoon he was immediately referred to Duren Sawit Hospital for treatment. It was suspected that he had a mental disorder", he said when contacted by VOI, Thursday, November 18.
