PONTIANAK - The Governor of West Kalimantan, Sutarmidji, released 5,000 food packages from President Joko Widodo to flood victims in Sintang Regency.

"I express my gratitude to the President who has provided special assistance to the people who were victims of the floods in Sintang as many as 5 thousand packages. But I have also conveyed to the President, this flood is not only in Sintang, but Kapuas Hulu, Sekadau, Sanggau, and Melawi," said Sutarmidji, in Pontianak, quoted by Antara, Thursday, November 18.

He hopes that after Sintang, there will be more assistance for other regencies, so that after that assistance from the community coordinated by the West Kalimantan Provincial Government can be distributed to other areas.

However, he said, from today the provincial government has sent for public kitchens to Kapuas Hulu, to Sanggau, Sekadau and Melawi.

"Later, on Sunday I will be there with approximately 6 to 10 trucks if possible. We will distribute them to those affected, not only in one district," he said.

Sutarmidji also appealed to areas that are experiencing floods to be able to establish a disaster emergency status so that rice reserves can be disbursed.

"So that the 100 tons of food reserves in each district can be disbursed. At least the people have rice first, then we will talk about other needs," he said.

The assistance from President Jokowi that has been distributed consists of rice, cooking oil, sugar, tea bags and biscuits which are expected to meet the needs of the people who are victims of the flood.
