Surabaya Becomes A National Pilot Towards 100 Percent Of Face-to-Face Learning

SURABAYA - The city of Surabaya, East Java, has become a national model towards 100 percent Face-to-face Learning (PTM) because it is considered successful in quickly handling the COVID-19 pandemic and organizing PTM.

"The city of Surabaya has been used as a reference. So far, the assessment, field checks, after that (surveillance, ed.) 10 percent at the school turned out to be Surabaya that was the most prepared", said Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, November 17.

He said it had been conveyed by experts from the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) dr. Andani Eka Putra during a visit to Surabaya City Hall on Monday, November 15.

The central government, continued Eri Cahyadi, wants to make the city of Surabaya a national reference for the implementation of 100 percent PTM because the region is considered the most prepared to implement the policy.

Regarding the handling of COVID-19 and the implementation of PTM, he said, the city of Surabaya was seen as the most successful by the central government. Therefore, Surabaya can be an example for other districts/cities or regional heads in Indonesia.

"It turns out that the central government (Surabaya, ed.) sees it as the best so that the city of Surabaya can be an example to other places", said Eri Cahyadi.

For the mayor of Surabaya, the most important thing is that PTM in Surabaya can run because when students only take education online, it will be difficult for them to be more intense in understanding the learning provided.

"The important thing is that this education is running. Because after all, if we don't meet (PTM, ed.), it's a bit difficult. The second thing I always say is asking my parents' permission", continued Eri Cahyadi.

However, he reiterated that schools are not the only places where COVID-19 is transmitted. Because, he said, the child could have contracted COVID-19 when playing or doing activities outside of school.

"So school is not the only place of a transmission. If school is prohibited but children are left at home, they don't wear masks and it's time to go to school, then the school will be blamed", said Eri Cahyadi.

Therefore, Mayor Eri Cahyadi advised the entire community to introspect each other, take care of each other and remain disciplined in implementing health protocols wherever they are. With cooperation and cooperation, he is optimistic that the COVID-19 pandemic can be passed.

"I hope that everyone in Surabaya will always introspect, maintain progress, not blame each other. This is Surabaya, which is full of cooperation, God willing, COVID-19 can be passed", he said.
