Makassar Mayor Danny Pomanto Issues Flood Alert Warning, Camat Ordered To Activate Container Recover

MAKASSAR - The Mayor of Makassar, Moh Ramdhan Pomanto (Danny Pomanto), issued a flood alert warning instruction following the increasing intensity of rainfall entering the peak period of the rainy season until early 2022 according to the BMKG forecast.

"Today I have ordered all sub-district heads to activate the recovery of our containers as disaster posts, especially floods and strong winds, tornadoes," Danny Pomanto said after briefing the Task Force at the Panakukkang District office, Makassar, South Sulawesi, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, November 16.

According to him, disaster preparedness must be prepared early on following the views of scientists at the BMKG regarding predictions until early next year that the possibility of a disaster could arise due to global weather changes.

In addition, the City Government together with Basarnas, TNI Polri and other related elements have coordinated in terms of anticipating and handling disasters. For this reason, the Sanitation Department personnel are deployed during the rainy season to clean up garbage and smooth the flow of water in the drainage so that it doesn't get clogged.

"We use the recovery center (15 containers in the sub-district), and it is already active. I ordered it to be on standby, and if it is ordered to be on standby, it means 24 hours," said Danny Pomanto.

He explained, currently entering the east season and will soon enter the west season. Usually the west season is accompanied by wind. The strength of the wind from the direction of Asia is now being felt.

"For that, we must mitigate and be alert. Like the current Task Force in Panakukkang District. All sub-districts have Task Forces on standby," he explained.

The mayor of Makassar for these two periods stated that he had prepared flood handling facilities, such as generators and pumps to drain puddle water. So far, two sub-districts are prone to flooding in Manggala and Biringkanaya.

"Alhamdulillah, Manggala and Biringkanaya from monitoring have not indicated as usual (flood). Usually, when the weather is like this it is already inundated," said Danny Pomanto.

Because last April, river triage was dredged together with the Je Jeneberang-Pompengan River Center in the Biringkanaya area, as well as at the Antang Public Housing Corporation Blocks 8 and 10, Manggala area, it was found that there was a narrowing there. The plan, next year immediately repair it so as not to cause puddles.

The mayor of Makassar also appealed to the public not to throw garbage anywhere, because the contribution of garbage creates a very large blockage. Next, be careful with electricity. Because, the use of electrical faults has many victims.

"If it rains, try to avoid big trees when doing activities. It's better to stay at home, it's safer when it rains heavily," said Danny Pomanto.
