Intention To Help Friends, Makassar Residents Died In Coal Ship Barn On Meulaboh Beach

ACEH - Two crew members (ABK) were found dead in the hull of a ship carrying coal materials in the Meulaboh Beach area, West Aceh Regency. It is strongly suspected that the two crew members died due to poison gas.

The victims were identified as Darwis Sapan (46) and Darwin (22) residents of Makassar City, South Sulawesi (South Sulawesi).

Meulaboh Pos Basarnas Coordinator Budi Darmawan said the bodies of the two victims were found this afternoon. Officers have taken them to the Korem Health Hospital in Meulaboh.

"It is currently suspected that the two crew members of the barge carrying coal inhaled toxic gas in the hull of the barge," said Budi Darmawan as quoted by Antara, Monday, November 15 evening.

Before the incident occurred, the victim named Darwis had entered the hull of the barge to check.

After being in the hull, the victim suddenly fainted. As soon as he saw his partner unconscious, Darwin tried to help him. However, Darwin also fainted at the same location.

The incident was reported to the ground, including Basarnas, for evacuation to the mainland.

Budi Darmawan explained that the distance between the shoreline and the location of the barge, where the two crew members were, was between 7 miles and 8 miles.

"Efforts to evacuate the two bodies took 4 hours. It took 2 hours to evacuate a victim using special equipment," he said.
