KPK Sued 6 Years In Prison, Nurdin Abdullah: Just Wait, Pray

JAKARTA - The governor of South Sulawesi, Nurdin Abdullah, did not speak much after being sentenced to 6 years in prison by the KPK Public Prosecutor. He only chose to wait for the verdict from the Makassar Corruption Court of Justice.

"No response yet, ed. That's still a demand," Nurdin told reporters after undergoing an online trial at the KPK Red Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Monday, November 15.

He asked all parties to pray for him. "Just wait, pray for me," said Nurdin as he got into the prisoner's car that took him to the KPK Rutan.

In the case of project bribery in the South Sulawesi Provincial Government, Nurdin Abdullah was demanded to be sentenced to 6 years in prison plus a fine of Rp. 500 million, subsidiary to 6 months in prison. This lawsuit was filed because the KPK prosecutor considered that he was proven to have accepted bribes.

He was declared to have received bribes worth 150,000 Singapore dollars, or around Rp. 1.596 billion and Rp. 2.5 billion, as well as gratifications worth Rp. 7.587 billion and 200,000 Singapore dollars, in the range of around Rp. 2.128 billion. In addition, the KPK prosecutor also demanded that Nurdin pay compensation to the state amounting to Rp3.187 billion and 350 thousand Singapore dollars no later than one month after the court's decision obtained permanent legal force.

If not paid, his property will be confiscated by the prosecutor and auctioned off. If Nurdin's assets are not sufficient, he will be subject to imprisonment for one year.

Then, the prosecutor also asked the judge to impose a sentence in the form of revocation of Nurdin Abdullah's political rights.

The claim is based on the first and second indictments of Article 12 letter a of Law No. 31 of 1999 as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1 in conjunction with Article 64 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code and Article 12 B Law No. 31 of 1999 as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in Article 65 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code.
