JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and PT PLN (Persero) have discussed electricity management so as not to endanger residents during floods in all areas of Jakarta.

"As a result of the discussion, PLN through its team will help secure the DKI Jakarta area when a flood occurs so that no residents are victims of electric shocks," said DKI Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan, to reporters at the Pluit Reservoir City Park, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, reported by Antara, Sunday, November 14.

Anies said that residents of DKI Jakarta had been victims of electric shocks during floods. "Don't let another victim die from electric shock during a flood. Therefore, electricity management is very important," said Anies.

It is known that PLN has prepared 2,356 standby officers in handling electricity for the rainy season in Jakarta. PLN has also prepared a "Disaster Recovery Center" as a place for electricity monitoring and technical service posts.

"The safety of human life is the most important thing. When it rains heavily which causes flooding, the electricity has to be temporarily turned off," he said.

According to Anies, the danger that can occur is being electrocuted because water is one of the conductors of electricity that can transmit electricity to the human body.

Several conditions caused PLN to be forced to turn off electricity, namely residents' houses being flooded, PLN assets being flooded, or residents' houses and PLN assets being flooded.

PLN routinely checks electricity poles and cables to ensure that the distribution of electrical energy to the community is in a normal and safe condition.

This is to prevent leakage currents that can endanger the community, especially during floods. The public can report to PLN if they encounter dangerous electrical poles and cables.

Anies said that all elements of the three pillars, starting from the Police, TNI, and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, are expected to work together to mobilize all forces, together with the community, hand in hand when facing the threat of flooding.

"Yes, in Jakarta we are ready, but what Jakarta is facing is not only problems in this city, but everything. We always underline, the main thing is that all residents are safe. No one died because of the flood," said Anies.

Anies explained, when the rainfall exceeds capacity, then everyone works to evacuate, save all residents.

Anies also reminded all parties to be prepared for disasters and to be aware of the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially when setting up refugee tents in places with a high risk of COVID-19 transmission.

"The tents that are currently being prepared are tents that are in accordance with the conditions of the pandemic, so as to avoid transmission if cases occur in places that are being isolated," said Anies.
