North Sumatra Police Chief Apologizes For Police Extorting Drivers In Medan

MEDAN - North Sumatra Police Chief Panca Putra Simanjuntak apologized for the actions of a police officer, Chief Police Brigadier PS, who blackmailed a motorist in Medan City.

The Police Chief asked the public to report immediately if they found a police officer who was extorting money or other bad behavior.

"I apologize to the public. If there are still members of the National Police who commit violations like this, don't hesitate, trust them and tell me," he said after checking the Chief Police Brigadier PS examination at the Medan Police Headquarters, Friday, November 11.

The North Sumatra Police will take firm action against police officers who commit violations, especially those that harm the community and tarnish the police institution.

"Please help carry out surveillance. The community is getting better and smarter. If the members are wrong, don't be half-hearted, we will take firm action," he said.

Against Chief Police Brigadier PS, Panca said that the person concerned was threatened with criminality and was currently undergoing an examination by the Medan Polrestabes Propam.

"It has been placed in a cell, a special place. The legal process is not only discipline, but also a code of ethics, including criminal," he said.

Previously, the extortion carried out by Chief Police Brigadier PS against a motorist in the city of Medan led to a mass tantrum on Thursday, November 11. The action went viral on social media.

Initially, residents were suspicious of the action of Chief Police Brigadier PS when they were asking for money from a motorist. Residents then came to Chief Police Brigadier PS and almost got angry because they were suspected of being fake police officers.

After finding out that Chief Police Brigadier PS was actually a police officer, the residents took him to the Medan Polrestabes.
