Innalillahi, Senior PPP Politician Former Garut Regent Agus Hamdani Dies

GARUT - The former Regent of Garut for the 2013-2014 period, Agus Hamdani, died due to illness in Garut Regency, West Java, Thursday morning. The senior politician from the Partai Persatuan Pembangunan (PPP) also serves as Deputy Chair of the Garut Regional House of Representatives for the 2019-2024 period.

Garut Regent, Rudy Gunawan, representing the Garut Regency Government expressed his condolences for the death of the 25th Garut Regent.

"On behalf of the Garut Regent and representing the Garut Regency Government, I express my deepest condolences for the departure of Mr. Agus Hamdani, he is the 25th Garut Regent and Deputy Chair of the Garut Regional House of Representatives", said Rudy Gunawan through a press release in Garut, as reported by Antara, Thursday, November 11th.

Rudy admitted that he was close and friendly with Agus Hamdani during his lifetime, especially as a regional head who had helped build and served Garut.

"Hopefully the late Husnul Khotimah and the family left behind will have patience and sincerity", he said.

A colleague of the deceased, Slamet, said that before he died, Agus Hamdani had felt short of breath at his home, Balubur Limbangan District, last Wednesday night. Agus then became unconscious. By the family, Agus was taken to the hospital.

"On the way around the Banyuresmi sub-district, it was estimated that he had died, so he was finally taken to the nearest health center and declared dead", he said.

According to him, Agus Hamdani was tired after traveling from Jakarta to attend political party activities, besides that the deceased had a history of illness.

"Maybe because of fatigue, but indeed when he was in Garut, before 21.00 WIB he still looked healthy", he said

Agus Hamdani, who also serves as Chairman of the PPP Branch of Garut Regency, began his political career by becoming a member of the Garut Regional House of Representatives, then was elected as Deputy Regent of Garut to replace Dicky Chandra, who resigned.

He was later appointed as Regent of Garut replacing Aceng Fikri who was dismissed as Regent of Garut due to problems with a short marriage with a woman.

Agus Hamdani then ran for the Regional Head Election in 2014 and 2018, but ultimately lost to the pair Rudy Gunawan-Helmi Budiman who currently leads Garut.

Agus Hamdani's body will be buried in his family's cemetery in Cicalengka District, Bandung Regency.
