Floods In Serdang Bedagai, North Sumatra Soak 4 Districts

MEDAN - The flood disaster that hit Serdang Bedagai Regency, North Sumatra, since the last two weeks has spread and has now submerged four sub-districts.

Head of the Medium Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Bedagai Henri Suharto said the four sub-districts affected by the flood were Tebingtinggi District, Sipispis District, Tanjung Beringin District and Sei Rampah District.

"From the four sub-districts, as many as 5,600 local residents' houses were affected by the flood," he said, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, November 10.

Henri said the expansion of the flood-affected area was due to overflowing rivers in the area, due to the high intensity of rain in recent days.

"We urge residents to remain vigilant because at this time heavy rains often occur," he said.

Meanwhile, Sei Rampah Sub-district Head Rahmat Suhendra Damanik said that the water level in the area, precisely in Sei Rampah Village, has now increased to about 20 to 30 centimeters.

"Sei Rampah Village is one of the villages where the houses of its residents are most flooded. From the previous 1,052, now 1,800 houses have been affected," said Rahmat.

"We are still evaluating what the residents need. Now we are evacuating the residents who are still in the house, we are moving them to the post that has been established," he said.
