Police Arrest Fishermen Catching Turtles On Oa Beach NTT

KUPANG - A resident of East Flores district with the initials BDS was arrested by the Directorate of Polairud Polda NTT for catching turtles protected on Oa Beach.

The Head of Public Relations of the NTT Polda Komhes, Rishian Krisna B, said that currently the perpetrators are still being held at the East Flores Police Headquarters.

"So our members get information from the community around Oa Beach, there are residents who catch turtles that are protected on the coast," he said, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, November 10.

The police then moved quickly to the location informed by the community. When they arrived at the location, the perpetrator was catching the turtle. The perpetrator was immediately arrested.

Krisna explained that the fisherman caught turtles on Oa Beach using a trawl/net. There are two turtles and they are hidden in a pile of trawls/nets.

After being interrogated, it was discovered that the turtles would be sold to the market.

"The goal is to sell the turtles for personal gain," he said.

Currently, the alleged perpetrators and evidence consisting of two turtles and a net/trawl have been confiscated by the police, who are coordinating with the BBKSDA of NTT Province, Maumere Office Branch to identify the type of turtle because the species of turtle is not yet known.
