Deputy Minister Of Industry Says European And Chinese Investors Will Involve 20,000 Villages To Develop Bamboo Industry

JAKARTA - A number of investors from Europe to China are interested in developing the bamboo industry in the country.

The plan is that there will be 20,000 villages that will be involved in the development of the bamboo industry.

This was conveyed by the Deputy Minister of Industry (Wamenperin) Faisol Riza when met by the media crew after opening the Indonesia International Furniture Expo (IFEX) 2025 event at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, Thursday, March 6.

"They want the concept of cultivation to involve the wider community. They need around 20,000 villages to be able to cultivate bamboo," said Faisol.

Faisol said that a number of potential investors had seen at least 4-7 types of bamboo in Indonesia. One of the bamboo that is eyed is the Betung type.

"In Indonesia, they see that if I'm not mistaken, there are 4-7 types of bamboo. One of the things that Betung bamboo sees (because) is considered to be able to replace bamboo raw materials," he said.

When visiting Indonesia, said Faisol, potential investors were interested in the type of bamboo in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

They considered that the type of bamboo in NTT was better than produced in China.

"There are many types of bamboo, according to them, are much better than those produced in China. Especially made of bamboo, replacing the wood they used as furniture for IKEA needs," explained Faisol.

According to Faisol, later they will invest in Indonesia to build factories.

Thus, there will be job creation in the future.

"They have explored cooperation here to create companies in the country with one foundation. It looks very serious, because from the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy it is also supportive, the Ministry of Industry is also supportive," said Faisol.

"Hopefully, with our abundant raw materials like this, (Indonesia) can become the largest provider of bamboo raw materials in the world," he continued.

When asked further, when will the realization of the investment be carried out, Faisol said in the near future. However, he has not been able to confirm how much investment value will be disbursed.

"The factory (don't know yet). This is just the beginning. It looks like this year it's already running," he concluded.
