The Rising Phenomenon Of Corruptors Fight Back, Attorney General: We Must Always Close The Lines

JAKARTA - Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin reminded his staff to close ranks and be vigilant in carrying out their duties in the midst of the rampant phenomenon of corruptors fight back.

The advice was conveyed by Burhanuddin to the Class 1 Prosecutors Education and Training (PPPJ) Class-78 participants at the Human Resources Development Agency of Aceh Province, on the sidelines of his working visit to the jurisdiction of the Aceh High Prosecutor's Office.

"Currently, there is a phenomenon known as corruptors fight back. Therefore, we must always close ranks, and be vigilant in carrying out our duties, and behaving according to existing norms, as well as in activities on social media," said Burhanuddin quoted in a written statement. The Attorney General's Office of Legal Information Center received in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Wednesday, November 10.

Burhanuddin also asked the prosecutors to avoid postings that were against institutional and government policies.

According to him, no one knows where a prosecutor will be placed and what case will be handled, related to this, if the prosecutor handles a sensitive case, then the opposing party will easily seek all kinds of information from a prosecutor, even his family.

Social media, said Burhanuddin, is the easiest instrument to find information about prosecutors and their personal lives, so they are vulnerable to being used by opposing parties to frame or create skewed opinions about themselves and the prosecutor's institution.

Therefore, Burhanuddin stressed to his staff to pay attention to and carry out with a full sense of responsibility the instructions of the Attorney General as stated in Letter Number: R-41/A/SUJA/09/2021. namely all employees are required to pay attention to ethics, manners, and manners in using social media.

"Observe and understand that every upload on social media does not contain SARA, radicalism, lies, fake news, attacks on other people's personalities, or conflicts with institutional and government policies," said Buhanuddin.

"And I remind you, avoid showing off luxury or hedonism in everyday life, including on social media," he also said. Currently, the Attorney General's Office is handling corruption cases that result in large state financial losses.

One of them is the alleged corruption in the management of finance and investment funds at PT Asuransi Sosial Armed Forces of the Republic of Indonesia (Asabri). Based on the calculation of the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK), the case caused a loss of state finances amounting to Rp22.78 trillion.

Investigators of the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) at the AGO have named 13 people and 10 investment manager companies (MI) as suspects. Of these, as many as eight people have the status of defendants and are currently undergoing trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court.

Meanwhile, two Asabri corruption defendants, namely Heru Hidayat and Benny Tjokrosapuro, were previously sentenced to life imprisonment in the mega-corruption case at PT Asuransi Jiwasraya. The case, which cost the state Rp. 16.807 trillion, was also investigated by the Jampidsus AGO investigators.
