JAKARTA - The DPR through the plenary session has ratified the approval of General Andika Perkasa as TNI Commander.

Now General Andika Perkasa is just waiting for the time to be sworn in by President Joko Widodo to officially become TNI Commander replacing Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto. Andika will hold the position until December 2022.

Member of the House of Representatives Commission I Dave Akbarshah Laksono is optimistic that General Perkasa Andika can carry out his duties well even though he will only serve for 13 months.

"Although many people question that he only has 13 months to serve, it doesn't mean that General Andika Perkasa is unable to carry out his duties and functions," said Dave during a discussion on the 4 Pillars of the MPR at the DPR building in Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, November 8.

Dave revealed, during the due diligence, General Andika Perkasa explained his vision and mission entitled "TNI is Us." According to him, it is a simple title but has deep meaning and broad values. Andika, he said, also discussed a lot about the Papua issue even beyond the time allotted.

According to Andika Perkasa's explanation, Indonesia must remain prepared for escalation in Papua, so a military approach is needed because of the high threat and potential for attacks.

“It means that there are still those who supply weapons, bullets and also including the supply of funds and also those who supply it all also come from within. So, there are also high cases of corruption that are also used to finance the fighting in Papua and that makes this problem drag on endlessly,” explained Dave.

Because of that, the Golkar Party politician explained, one of Andika's policies is to deploy soldiers to fill military posts such as Koramil, Kodam, Kodim, Korem and also prepare a task force there.

It still has to be done, because there are still shortages, not to mention the Navy base (AL) and also the Air (AU) base which is still full of vacancies.

"So the addition of soldiers there does not mean automatically it is only a thickening of troops to fight the people, but indeed the need is still a lot, it is still empty," he added.

Dave added, it should not only place personnel, but also take advantage of the technology currently owned in Papua. For example, by utilizing drones, the technology of which today is increasingly sophisticated. There are also many drones made by the nation's children with various abilities, including weapons.

"Well, that's what we have to develop so that to overcome the void of our combat equipment, we must improve our capabilities, our human resources capabilities, we must also dare to invest in research and development, so that the TNI's capabilities can already fill the voids that exist," " he concluded.
