JAKARTA - Just a day later after the deadly accident that took the lives of Vanessa Angel and her husband, Bibi, it was widely circulated on chat applications about unsafe toll roads in Indonesia.

The issue has even reached TikTok social media. The narrative is that the level of safety of toll road infrastructure in Indonesia is very low.

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing(PUPR) finally raises its voice? And they emphatically denied that information.

This information was shared by the Ministry of PUPR through their official Instagram account as seen by the editor, Monday, November 8.

"Every toll road has gone through a function-worthiness test and an operation-worthy test according to traffic safety management standards," said this account opening an explanation.

"One of the checks is skin resistance, concrete, and asphalt," they continued.

The Ministry of PUPR has carefully considered the use of the type of barrier between lanes. The calculation even takes into account the fatality of the accident.

"The use of open media often creates opportunities for lost vehicles to slip into the opponent's lane," they asserted.

The PUPR Ministry also cited the recommendation from the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) that open media should be replaced with rigid guardrail concrete or wire rope.

"The brake pedal does not stop immediately at high speed," they continued.

Moreover, there is also an agreed speed limit, which is 80-100 km/hour.

"So those who say that toll roads in Indonesia are not safe are hoaxes," he said.
