Migrant Worker From Banyuwangi Dies At Singapore Changi Airport Due To Heart Attack

BANYUWANGI - A female migrant worker from Tegalsari, Banyuwangi, East Java died at Singapore's Changi Airport due to a heart attack.

Head of the UPT for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BP2MI) Banyuwangi Muhammad Iqbal said Diani's body has now been taken care of by the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore.

The body was returned to Indonesia via Soekarno-Hatta Airport today.

"We will continue using land transportation to the funeral home," said Iqbal, Wednesday, November 3.

Iqbal explained that the late Diani was a PMI who previously worked in Malaysia. When she was about to return to Indonesia, Diani's plane transited at Singapore Changi Airport.

While at the airport, Diani had a heart attack and received medical treatment at the hospital.

"Two days later we were notified by the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore. We immediately conducted a search and finally we were able to contact the family in Banyuwangi," he said.

Administratively, said Iqbal, Diani is an unregistered or illegal migrant worker. However, BP2MI is still responsible for managing.

"So there is no official dichotomy, we all serve. Thank God this case is not too difficult," said Iqbal.
