SURABAYA - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa inaugurated Gatut Sunu Wibowo as Deputy Regent of Tulungagung for the remainder of the 2018-2023 term.

"Congratulations to the Deputy Regent of Tulungagung and must continue to focus on working for the sake of serving the community," said the Governor on the sidelines of taking the oath of office and inauguration, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, November 2.

Also present was the Regent of Tulungagung, Maryoto Birowo, accompanied by a local Forkopimda official.

With the inauguration of Gatut Sunu, the businessman and politician from the PDI-P officially accompanied the Regent Maryoto Birowo until the end of his term of office.

Khofifah hopes that the complete structure in the Tulungagung Regency Government can improve the progress process from what has been achieved so far.

"As long as it is led by Regent Maryoto alone, Tulungagung has proven with extraordinary achievements. So future achievements must increasingly bring leaps in progress for the welfare of the people of Tulungagung," he said.

Governor Khofifah also reminded Deputy Regent Gatut Sunu to assist the regent's performance, especially in dealing with extreme poverty which is a central government program.

"This year the trial handling in East Java was carried out in five villages in five districts. In 2022, the center will add 25 villages or sub-districts. One of the villages in Tulungagung has been targeted so it must be taken seriously," he said.

Meanwhile, Gatut Sunu Wibowo was declared victorious in the interim election of the Deputy Regent of Tulungagung, through the mechanism of a plenary meeting at the Tulungagung DPRD on September 18, 2021.

He filled this position which had been vacant for three years. This situation cannot be separated from the legal process carried out by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), in the corruption case at the PUPR Service in 2018.

This case dragged the then-elected regent, Syahri Mulyo, so that the deputy regent was sworn in as the definitive regent. By the panel of judges at the Surabaya Corruption Court, Syahri Mulyo was sentenced to 10 years in prison and a fine of IDR 700 million, and his political rights were revoked within five years.
