As Speaker Of The C40 Forum, Anies: Jakarta Completes Ambitious Climate Action Plan

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan was a speaker at the international forum Steering Committee Meeting C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40). Anies attended this forum virtually.

The briefing forum that was held was a side event of the COP26 High Level Conference in Glasgow, England, which was attended by President Joko Widodo.

In the forum, Anies claimed that Jakarta had completed a climate improvement plan through the rules he made. The regulation is Governor's Regulation No. 90 of 2021 concerning Climate Resistant Regional Low Carbon Development Plans.

“Jakarta has finally completed its ambitious climate action plan. Through the establishment of regulations as a stronger basis for implementing climate action as well as efforts to carry out the big mission of C40, to encourage cities in the world to complete their climate action plans," said Anies, quoted on Tuesday, November 2.

Anies considers that cities have a significant and vital role in the success of climate change mitigation and adaptation, as an effort to overcome the catastrophic impacts of climate change.

Therefore, Anies said that C40 in the COP26 Summit was very important. Anies also proposed three discussion agendas that the C40 network could convey in the COP26 forum.

"First, C40 needs to lead and encourage cities' efforts to take climate action at the national level, as reflected in each country's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC)," said Anies. help cities to implement their climate action plans. Third, let's encourage multi-level governance in cities that are able to develop cross-sectoral, cross-border, and cross-generational collaboration. Let's work together," he continued.

On that occasion, Anies also appreciated the Mayor of Los Angeles, Eric Garcetti, as the leader of C40, for providing support in the formulation of climate action plans in Jakarta and other world cities, thus expanding the C40 network to more than 40 cities in the world.

Not to forget, Anies also congratulated the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan who became the new leader of C40 to further encourage cities in the world to actively contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation actions.
