Elton John's Handwritten Your Song Lyrics Sold For IDR 3.3 Billion

JAKARTA - Elton John's original handwritten lyrics for Your Song, sold for £ 180,000 (around Rp.3.3 billion in current exchange rates) at the Bonhams auction in Los Angeles, United States. The lyrics of the song were written by John in collaboration with Bernie Taupin.

According to NME, Maxine Taupin, who was married to Bernie from 1971 and 1976, also auctioned off a number of her husband's lyrics at Bonhams. Among these, Candle In The Wind, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, and 'Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting' are still unsold at auction, which can raise £ 271,000 in total.

Said Maxine, "When Bernie has finished all this, we will visit Elton."

Speaking to Rolling Stone prior to the auction, Maxine explained that she couldn't remember a draft of these lyrics, until her divorce.

"I don't really remember that time. But some of you might have framed it on the wall at home, or someone kept it perfectly," he said.

Mixine, who last saw Elton perform in 2004, said he decided to cash in on the lyrics after Rocketman's success.
