Duran Duran are choosing to have a high standard that cannot be negotiated when dealing with a gig offer, even for a festival as big as Glastonbury.
As is known, although they have bagged a string of impressive achievements ranging from two Grammy awards, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, to a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, there is one big stage they have never stepped on: Worthy Farm.
Singer Simon Le Bon insists his band are open to performing at Glastonbury, but with one absolute condition that cannot be compromised, they only want to perform if they are placed as headliners.
Le Bon emphasized that his band's position in the music industry was at the peak level, so they were not willing to be a cover for other musicians in the lineup.
"We want the right slot. We shouldn't be under anyone on the bill," Le Bon said in a recent interview with The Times.
The singer, who was awarded the title of Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by King Charles in 2024, clarified that their reluctance was not because they did not want to perform, but because the offer given did not match the status of Duran Duran.
Le Bon revealed that they had once received an offer to perform at Glastonbury in the past, but the offer was far from expectations.
"We want to (perform), but not in a disco tent at 3pm, that's what we were offered before. So, we'll stick with it because we're the headliners - that's the reality," Le Bon said.
Glastonbury itself is scheduled to take a break for this year, in order to restore the Eavis family's agricultural land ecosystem. This means that the nearest opportunity for "Duranies" to see their heroes in action on the new Pyramid stage will open in 2027.
While waiting for confirmation from the Glastonbury organizers, Duran Duran still maintains their existence on the big stage. They are scheduled to be the main performers at the BST Hyde Park event on July 5.
The band, which is led by Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, and Roger Taylor, also just released a new single titled "Free to Love" in April.
