JAKARTA - The excitement and enthusiasm of Indonesian music lovers can be seen from the holding of OTW - part of the journey to welcome Pestapora 2026 - which began on Sunday evening, May 3, at the Space Workshop, SCBD, South Jakarta.
The concept of swapping the setlist, which was the main highlight of Pestapora last year, is back. J-Rocks, which is full of Japanese-style music, exchanged the setlist with RAN which carries pop-R&B. Then Maliq & D'Essentials, who have romantic songs, exchanged with Rhoma Irama who brings strong messages in his work.
Different from what was shown last year, the stage for the OTW's setlist exchange was presented in a more intimate way - in a room, comfortable, a smaller stage, and the distance between the performers and the audience was so close.
J-Rocks was the first performer on the first night of OTW. Iman, Sony, Wima, and Anton opened the stage with the song "Selamat Pagi" - from RAN's debut album in 2007 - which was responded to with the passion of the audience who filled the room.
RAN's other hit songs are still performed by Iman et al., such as "Dekat Di Hati" and "Pandangan Pertama". The difference is clearly felt, these songs have a distinctive Japanese popular music touch.
In his performance, J-Rocks also presented a special moment by bringing Hiroshima-based musician Masafumi Kawamoto to the stage. "Bicycle", a song from the album HOP3 released in 2013, was performed in Japanese.
Next, it was RAN's turn to bring songs from the band that debuted two years earlier than them. Nino, Rayi, and Asta opened the performance by performing "Meraih Mimpi", a J-Rocks song from the Road to Abbey Road EP released in 2009.
Other J-Rocks hits such as "Fallin' In Love", "Ceria", "Try to Understand", to "You Steal Again". On the last song, RAN brought a surprise by presenting the vocalist of Lomba Sihir, Natasha Udu, who was greeted by the audience.
Not stopping there, when closing the setlist with the song "Lepaskan Diriku", Nino cs once again presented a surprise. Comedian Dicky Difie with his guitar went up on stage to play the melody in the interlude of the song.
After being satisfied with the exchange of J-Rocks and RAN setlists, more than a thousand people are still faithfully waiting for the collaboration of Maliq & D'Essentials and Rhoma Irama.
Angga Puradiredja cs appeared first. The band, which debuted in 2005, performed a number of iconic songs from the King of Dangdut, such as "Judi", "Begadang", and "Penasaran".
Every setlist that Rhoma brought, Maliq & D'Essentials tried to maintain the rhythm of dangdut. In fact, the audience managed to make them shake throughout the song.
Then it was Rhoma Irama's turn to take to the stage. Appearing with Soneta, the 79-year-old musician performed Maliq & D'Essentials' popular songs, such as "Kumpul Bocah", "Kita Bikin Romantis", and "Senja Teduh Pelita".
At the end of the first night of OTW, Maliq & D'Essentials with Rhoma Irama and Soneta, performed together with the complete formation. No less than 18 people appeared on stage with their respective positions. "Mirasantika", "Pilihanku", "Judi", and "Setapak Sriwedari" were alternated as closers.
Meanwhile, the OTW event will continue at the same place until Tuesday, May 5. The concept of exchanging the setlist from Pestapora last year is still a presentation.
For the second night, Mocca will exchange songs with Reality Club, followed by Payung Teduh who shares a setlist with Sore. Then for the third night, Kangen Band and Danilla will bring a bunch of hits from Sheila On 7.
