Olivia Rodrigo Gives Clues for Third Album

JAKARTA - Olivia Rodrigo has finally started to open up about her latest music project. The singer of "vampire" confirmed that her third album will again be dominated by a series of melancholy love songs, which have catapulted her name in the global music industry.

After the great success with the albums "Sour" (2021) and "Guts" (2023), the expectations of fans for the 23-year-old musician's new album are at their highest point. Speculation about the new era is strengthened by the aesthetic changes on his official website, where the purple background has been changed to pink.

Not only that, the "OR" logo which was previously rigid has now transformed into a design that is softer and more curved, even appearing in the form of a mural in Los Angeles as well as a mysterious padlock in London with the writing "April".

Although Rodrigo is still keeping the title and official release date a secret, he shared the emotional challenges he faced during the creative process. He admitted that he had trouble when trying to compose lyrics from a joyful perspective. Rodrigo felt that the overflowing feeling of happiness actually made him less productive in stringing words.

"It's creatively challenging to write from a place of happiness. When you're connecting with someone or feeling really good, you're not busy in your head thinking about bittersweet poetry," Rodrigo said in a recent interview with British Vogue, quoted by Variety, Saturday, March 21.

Rodrigo explained that he realized the beauty of fear and longing that was hidden in romantic songs. One of the new songs on this album is said to be inspired by the dynamics of the relationship between Miranda and Steve's characters in the Sex and the City series. He felt very connected to the feeling of loss when someone no longer has a place to share funny everyday stories.

The song is described as having a more experimental feel and can be used to dance to, complete with an orchestral touch at the end. Rodrigo calls it a representation of what he feels about true love, which he thinks is the most raw form of oneself.

"You'll get to the core of all your problems: how you feel about yourself, your insecurities, what makes you happy. It feels like the most raw form of yourself, which is sometimes very scary and uncomfortable, but sometimes also beautiful," he added.

In the midst of preparing the album, Rodrigo also briefly touched on his relationship with fellow pop star, Sabrina Carpenter. After years of being the subject of public speculation regarding a love rivalry, Rodrigo emphasized that he really appreciated Carpenter's achievements and did not want to be caught up in the narrative of discord that was often made by the media.

Rodrigo ensured that the communication between him and Carpenter was going well and full of support.

"No, no, no, everything is fine. It's just that people are weird and looking for sensations - but everything is fine. I've talked to him many times," concluded Rodrigo.
