Mariah Carey Speaks Out After Three Times Nominated for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

JAKARTA - Mariah Carey's name is back on the list of potential Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees for 2026.

This is the third time in a row that the diva has been nominated, since she first qualified a decade ago. However, until now she has not been officially inducted into the prestigious musician's honor museum.

Responding to the phenomenon, Carey gave a casual answer while joking. He admitted that he was not too bothered by the reason behind his not being chosen even though he had been nominated many times.

"I don't know the answer. It's just something I never thought about before. It's something I now find incredible," Carey said in a recent interview with Variety.

This year, the singer of "We Belong Together" had to compete with a row of other big names such as Lauryn Hill, Shakira, Phil Collins, Wu-Tang Clan, to Pink.

Although the public considers Carey's inauguration to be very late, the singer known for his whistle register technique chose not to have high expectations. For him, recognition in the form of nominations alone gives a feeling that is difficult to explain.

"It's incredible. I mean, there's something inexplicable, and it's very, very fun," the diva said.

"If (the inauguration) happens, then it happens. If not, yes it is not. But I think it will be a wonderful thing," he added.

The voting to determine who is eligible to enter the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is underway and the results will be announced in April.

Carey himself emphasized that he never really believed an award would belong to him until the trophy was actually in his hands.

"I never really believed it was going to happen until it actually happened," Mariah Carey concluded.
