JAKARTA - Los Angeles-based heavy metal giants Metallica have officially announced the extension of their residency schedule titled "Life Burns Faster" at the Sphere, Las Vegas, USA.

Due to the high demand from fans, James Hetfield et al. had to extend their stay at the futuristic venue until March 2027.

Initially, the band known for the song "Enter Sandman" only confirmed eight shows scheduled throughout October this year.

However, the massive enthusiasm made them double the schedule of performances to 24 performances. Additional schedules include in November this year, until January, February, and March 2027.

The concept carried is consistent with the format of 'No Repeat Weekend', where Metallica guarantees that no song will be played twice in the two-night package of the show.

Meanwhile, Metallica's drummer and founder, Lars Ulrich, said the idea to perform at the Sphere came when he watched the venue's opening a few years ago.

Ulrich feels that the technology owned by Sphere is the future for loud music performances that have been stuck in conventional formats.

"About 12 seconds after the opening night at the Sphere with U2 in 2023, I thought, we have to do this. This is really uncharted territory," said Ulrich, quoted by NME, Monday, March 9.

"This residency gives us another opportunity to reinvent the way we interact with fans in a live setting," he continued. "We're really excited to share this with the world in the next six months, and really excited to step it up to the next level."

Sphere itself is known as a venue with the highest resolution LED screen in the world that covers the entire audience area. Metallica promises to utilize Sphere Immersive Sound technology and 4D multi-sensor features to provide an audio-visual experience that has never been felt at any metal concert before.

Metallica's presence at the Sphere also makes them the first heavy rock band to hold a residency there, following the names of big names such as U2, Phish, Dead & Company, and The Eagles.

Before settling in Las Vegas, Metallica is scheduled to complete a series of European and UK tours by mid-year, including a two-night appearance at London Stadium in July.
