JAKARTA - The Bandung-based experimental unit, Basajan, is back to hit the independent music scene with the release of the latest single titled "Nadoman".

This work is an aesthetic bridge that takes listeners to their first full-length album, "Bewara", which is scheduled to be released in April.

Released under the label Bahasa Ibu Records, "Nadoman" comes as a deep reflection on the West Javanese people's speech tradition combined with the exploration of modern sounds.

Culturally, nadoman or nadzom is widely known by the Sundanese people as a tradition of chanting praise, advice, and religious teachings in the mosque before the time of prayer arrives.

But in Basajan's hands, the tradition is reconstructed into a contemplative but still powerful auditory experience.

The group, which is now based in Jakarta, managed to pack the typical Priangan repetition and melody patterns into a psychedelic groove that has been their musical identity so far.

Basajan guitarist, Adhitama Putra Prakarsa, said that the selection of the title and theme was their effort in photographing the resonance of the relationship between humans, nature, and the Creator.

Through the layered composition of the instruments, Basajan wants to present a transcendent feel without losing the energetic side that can be enjoyed on the dance floor.

"Basajan interprets 'Nadoman' as a form of self-reminder about the resonance between humans and their creator and the universe. Through this composition, we try to bring a sense of calm and transcendence into a groovy dance floor space, but still have a wild side typical of psychedelia," said Adhitama in his statement, Thursday, February 12.

Basajan is known for consistently exploring narratives of spirituality and local mythology. If on the previous single, "1971", they offered a mystical atmosphere full of vigilance - through "Nadoman", Basajan showed the maturity of a more calm but complex arrangement.

The creative process of this song also involved Panji Wisnu in the mixing and mastering stages, while the supporting visuals were worked on by graphic designer Yuri Yeuyanan.

The presence of the single "Nadoman" is a sweet opening for experimental music fans before they welcome the album "Bewara" on April 10.

For music lovers who want to feel the sensation of Sundanese spirituality in a psychedelic package, this song can be accessed on various digital streaming platforms as well as download services on the official Bahasa Ibu Records website.
