JAKARTA - One of Indonesia's proud grunge bands, Cupumanik, released a single song titled Yang Kan Terjalani (YKT) on May 2, 2020. Although it is not a new song, YKT has never been included in any album.

YKT was recorded during the cultivation session of Cupumanik's self titled debut album in 2005, but was canceled. Now this song has been overhauled, so that it is relevant to the times.

This song also marks the return of Rama Aditta or Mpok, Cupumanik's early guitarist, to the band's formation. Rama served as a harmony filler in the guitar department with Eski.

The clean sound, wrapped in strings and orchestration, are luxuriously arranged in this song, which is Rama's artistic contribution. He wanted to highlight the ambience and syahdunya of the song as well as make YKT as Rama's lighter to reunite with Cupumanik.

Meanwhile, guitarist Eski, performed a unique thematic tone that adorned the song with powerful guitar riffs from intro to ending without repetition. Everything is continuous, related to the theme and spirit of the song. Despite the dirty sound spots from the fuzz effect it still feels so sticky.

In the rhythm section division, Dony and Iyak built a foundation following the nuances of an already acoustic song. Emphasized by a 3/4 laid-back shuffle, the rest is allowed to flow. Dony reconstructed with a surprise breakdown, a tom riff with a swing's feel on the bridge and several other variants in the chorus. The same thing can also be found in the interlude and coda to end which are deliberately made afro-carribean (reggae) nuances, reminiscent of the nuances of Sting's Seven Days song.

In the vocal line, Che often closed his eyes while recording in order to be more immersive. He imagined speaking to a woman in the language of love.

"YKT is a romantic conversation between men and women," Che said in a written statement received by the editorial desk.

Che was more 'singing' without his distinctive rusty, husky screech. All that was heard was the relaxed, seductive and lulling baritone. YKT is a consoling love mantra for anyone who has been faithful by your side.

Meanwhile, as a lyricist Iyak said, for those wives or soul mates who sincerely accept all their shortcomings, they are willing to sail through the oceans of life and be willing to drown in joy and drive away wounds.

"They are companions to knit hope and age together," concluded the bassist.
