JAKARTA - Guns N' Roses bassist, Duff McKagan, shared a personal story about the beginning of his deep interest in the world of music.

The musician, known for his bass drum, admitted that one of his biggest motivations to become a professional musician began with a unique dream in his teenage years, where he imagined himself as the "Godfather of Punk", Iggy Pop.

"I dreamed of being Iggy when I was 12 or 13," McKagan said in a recent interview with Mojo.

McKagan also told the details of his dream, where he was on stage in a church basement, rolling around, expressing all his emotions, and feeling very empowered.

According to him, the dream really colored his intensity which was developing to make music his way of life.

In addition to the influence of the subconscious, McKagan's musical development was also shaped by physical releases. The first album he bought was "Alive!" by Kiss.

McKagan recalls how the album cover mesmerized his mind, which was then 12 years old.

The three-chord song structure in the album also eventually led him to the punk rock genre in just a year.

He assessed that the rhythm in songs such as "Strutter" or "Firehouse" has a common thread that is very close to the song "Bodies" by Sex Pistols.

Although it's hard to choose a favorite album of all time because of his wide musical tastes - from Motorhead, Led Zeppelin, to Prince - McKagan mentioned several releases that he regularly listens to with his family.

LCD Soundsystem's "Sound Of Silver" album is described by McKagan as a family party album, and they even watched the group together at Coachella.

For a quieter mood, McKagan chose the late Mark Lanegan's work, "Whiskey For The Holy Ghost", as a companion on Sunday morning.

"Everyone will feel better if they start their day with 'The River Rise'. Mark's voice envelops the room when you listen to this recording and everything feels right in this world," he concluded.
