Damon Albarn: Oasis Makes Britpop Feel Like The Biggest Thing On Earth

JAKARTA - The leader of Blur and Gorillaz, Damon Albarn, recently made a surprising statement by praising his historical rival band, Oasis, for their great role in music history.

Albarn claims that Oasis has shown excellent work in making Britpop feel like the biggest thing on earth.

The statement was made by Albarn in a recent interview with a publication from Mexico, Sopitas, where he reviewed Britpop's spectroscopy and how the genre has continued to absorb in pop culture until now.

As is known, Blur and Oasis were well-known for their "Britpop Battle", a legendary chart fight on August 14, 1995, when both bands released singles on the same day.

At that time, Blur introduced Country House from the album The Great Escape, while Oasis launched Roll With It from the album What's The Story (Morning Glory).

Since that competition, the two bands have become globally recognized big names, with Oasis currently on their reunion tour and Blur last released the album The Ballad of Darren in 2023.

Now, Albarn is talking further about the period to Sopitas, underlining Oasis' services towards Britpop music and the consistency of the Gallagher brothers.

"Oasis has done a very good job of making Britpop feel like the biggest thing on earth," said Albarn.

"I myself don't know how they do it, how do they keep doing it. They just hold on to it, but they do it very well," added Albarn.

Earlier this summer, Albarn had also discussed the Britpop Battle, revealing that he was delighted to admit excess' in the legendary rivalry.

"Well, that's clear, isn't it?" Albarn said. "I think we can officially say that Oasis won the battle, war, campaign, everything."

Furthermore, Albarn said that he had also predicted the Gallagher brothers' reunion in Oasis.

"Well, you can't think that two brothers can't make peace. Sooner or later. That's a good thing, in my opinion," he said.

However, Albarn stated that he would not attend the Oasis performance because of his very busy schedule.
