Ahmad Dhani Wants Revision Of Copyright Law Side By Side With Songwriters

JAKARTA - Ahmad Dhani emphasized his position as a supporter of the revision of the Copyright Law. His opinion was quite firm when speaking at a Hearing Meeting (RDP) with Commission XIII DPR RI today, Wednesday, August 27.

As a member of Commission VIII of the House of Representatives as well as the Board of Trustees of the All-Indonesian Composters Association (AKSI), Dhimi stated that he is fighting for the rights of songwriters, especially those who are not active on the music stage like singers and band personnel.

"Frankly, I grow up as a band player. But I'm here to fight for composers who don't work as singers like Ariel, or a band player like Piyu," said Dhani.

"But Piyu and I (Chairman of ACTION), here fight for composers like Ari Bias and hundreds of other composers who don't get their rights," added Dhani.

This got worse because Dhani saw that no party apologized or admitted mistakes when they saw the songwriters did not get their rights properly.

The Dewa 19 frontman also requested that the revision of the Copyright Law contain the establishment of a special institution outside the Collective Management Institute (LMK) to collect royalties from music concerts.

He hopes that the revised Copyright Law will not be interpreted as in the previous era.

"Don't let there be the same interpretation as the previous government, the government is led by Pak Jokowi and his ministers Pak Yasona," said Dhani.

When there is the same legal interpretation at LMKN, there will be more things that harm composers. Singers such as Ariel, BCL, Judika will remain rich, but the composers will continue to be impoverished," he said.
